Message:
I have a 97 dakota 3.9 V6. I've been having trouble
with it lately when it rains. It seems to sputter,
hesitate and I can have the pedal pinned to the
floor and get no pickup. I have had the plugs and
wires changed. The oil is looking a little wierd,
kind of creamy. Could this have something to do with
a head gasket? any help at all would be appreciated.

Plugs an wires,
What happened to Cap & Rotor?

The symptoms could be a bad or cracked cap
next would be coil

Creamy color in oil?
if your oil has a milky look to it
you have water in it!

Could be a leak but first question
Do you take alot of short trips?

OK dave9373

First if you changed Plugs an wires I would
suggest finishing the tune up. New cap & rotor &
use quality parts. I recommend these with brass
inserts, Check your local NAPA and ask if they
have or can order you the Echlin Cap/Rotor set.
They are made in America and all brass inserts.

Now for the oil
It could be a leak However
To many shorts trips will also not allow
normal condensation to burn off
Start with an oil change and filter
and keep an eye on the oil
Make NOTE here you need to get the motor to FOT
(full operating temp) and keep it there for 30mins
The next step would be changing the oil every 2000
miles

Below is a link copy an paste it into your browser
and I want you to read #2 on the page

dave I forgot to say that the oil should be changed
ASAP! You can do some serious damage to that motor
and/or even ruin it.

You're welcome & I'll look for an update.

If you are not having to add coolant/anti freeze
then you can pretty much rule out any internal leak.
