Subject: Corroded Brake Lines IP: Logged
Message: I recently noticed a loss in braking ability in my dakota. I checked the brake lines running from the master cylinder, to find out that about halfway back the truck, theres about an 8 inch section of corroded brake lines, where brake fluid is leaking. I can't find replacement brake lines anywhere....anyone have any ideas?
Thank You.

Message: Brake line is sold everywhere. There are standard lengths - 12, 20, 30, 51, 60 and 72 inch lengths, pre-terminated. Or you can buy 25-ft coils of brake line and terminate them with a double-flaring tool. The long run from front to back has to be fabricated. You cannot order brake lines specific to a vehicle (except for certain collectible cars). I recommend re-plumbing the whole truck, as the rest will rust, and use PolyArmour lines, which have a protective polyfluoride coating (dark green).

Message: the cost effective way is to inspect all of your brakelines to see if any other spots are as rusted. usually its just onespot were dirt held saltwater(or salt spray) against the line damaging the one area. if the rest of the line (lines) are ok-cut out the damaged area and double flare the ends. then insert a repair line as bobby talked about. Ether find a buddy to teach you to doubleflare or get a buddy to do it for you. Its not hard to learn but must be done correctly. Heres to better days..

Message: Standard brake line is cheap but wow... what a pain in the butt it is to properly bend. I say just do your best!
