Message: Hi all, Almost a year ago I sold my 02 Dakota
Sport 4X4, 4.7, Tow package and never did
replace it with another. Instead I bought a used
Jeep Liberty. A bad mistake. It was like riding
a horse with no knees! Also that 3.7 V6 is one
gutless engine.
My better half and I wanted to get back into
camping in a bigger way. We went out and bought
a 28' Jayco with a slider. Now I have a good
excuse to dump the Liberty.
I didn't buy a Dakota for two reasons. One, the
camper is 8' wide. The Dakota is not even 6' and
that would mean large add on mirrors. Two, it's
a well-known fact about the tranny problems.
I also didn't buy a Ram. The problem there is
there is no mid range V8 offered. It's either
a 4.7 that I feel is too small for the Ram when
pulling a heavy load and the gas eating Hemi is
much too big for everyday use. And again, the
tranny problems.
I looked at GM. Nice trucks, good V8's and
trannys. Their big drawback is its electronics.
I've talked to several GM owners that complain
about how all the trips back to the dealer to
replace computers, interment clusters, and switches
etc all the time. How many times do you see a
GM truck with one burned out running (parking)
light? The engineers know there is an over heating
problem with those lights but do they do anything
about it? Nope.. Same goes with their electronics.
So what did I buy? A Ford! Yep, I didn't think
I'd ever own a brand new F-150. Ever listen to
"Click and Clack"? They ALWAYS say Ford is the
best all around work truck. Also, Ford never did
borrow any money to stay afloat.
So this is my last post guys. This site is the
best I ever found for Dakotas. It is a shame the
SysOp of this site can't police some of the
total morons that have nothing better to do but
be-little one another. Oh well, takes all kinds
to make the world go around I guess.
So, good by and good luck to all of you.

Message: Well I guess thats all he's looking for. Still beats driving a Ram with only 230HP. Of course years latter they finaly give it a boost in power.

Message: Yes those were the decompression day's. I wonder if we might see that again. And the 230 HP V8 engine I was talking about was the smaller PowerTech motor that was borrowed from Jeep (4.7L).
