Subject: Rear axle clunks on turns IP: Logged
Message: 95 2WD 140K
Mainly left turns at traffic lights I'm hearing a moderately loud clunk. Seemed like it might be coming from the rear but upper ball joints were worn; replaced them with no change. Now I push rear end of the truck rocking side to side I can see movement in the drums and hear a pretty good clunk. Gotta be coming from the axle C clips???
Do these wear down over time?
No whine/grind/clunks on shift ever from this rear end.

I am having the same problem..mostly after getting off the freeway when I take off from the first complete stop and make a turn. Sounds like it is coming from the back but I am not sure.

I shake the box and clunk comes from the axle shafts moving...
There is play with those c-clips, its been like that for seven years
now......I just live it!!
