Subject: Monroe Reflex's don't fit? IP: Logged
Message: I bought some monroe reflex rear shocks from Rock Auto (part # 911138) and they don't fit... The horizontal 'spacers' that are installed into the shock itself are too wide and don't fit into the top or bottom brackets on the truck.
I would just take the 'spacers' out and put in the ones from my old shocks, but these won't budge.
Was there maybe some kind of mistake at the factory...do I just dremel grind them down or contact monroe?...or...?

Message: That part number is for the rear axle of a 4x2 Dakota and Durango. There shouldn't be any problem with the fitment.
I'd suggest exchanging them for correct/different ones. It's possible these were incorrectly manufactured or packaged.
You could always use the Dremel approach to correct the manufacturing issue if the shocks are indeed the right ones.

Message: James,
How much are we talking about here? 1/8 inch, 1/4inch?
They should go in there without too much problem. If it's just a little bit, try putting the bottom on the edge kkinda at an angle, and twist it in there. It should fit. I've use the reflex in the past, (rancho's now), it should go.
Let us know how you did.

Message: It's a lot. Probably about a 1/4 inch. I sent monroe an email, but haven't heard anything from them since.

Message: Just got an email back from Rock Auto yesterday. Took them awhile to get back to me, but the guy that wrote back was pretty helpful. He gave me dimensions etc and I was able to identify it as being the correct part.
I'm not sure why they don't want to fit...Maybe the mounting eye for the last ones was a bit smaller and I cranked down on it enough to make the mounting brackets move??...not sure, but I'm going to put a dremel on them and make them fit. We'll see how that goes...lol

Message: You could also try putting a spanner wrench on the flange, and bending it out slightly, maybe?
Good luck, we want you to get those puppies on there!

Message: They are the wrong ones. The correct shocks will fit with no issues. Keep on them and make them send you the right ones.
Don't listen to Todd Bouton about bending things on your truck. Get the right ones and no bending required.
Drive it like you stole it from Todd.

Message: I've been working 14-15 hour shifts at work lately...so it's been put on hold...but I'm probably just going to put a dremel to the mounting eye on the shocks and grind a little off.

Message: I'm sure that will work but you might want to use the side of a bench grinder that way it stays nice and flat; and you also said you need to take a 1/4 inch off?!
That seems like awful lot, if its possible you may want to take them back and get a different brand. I'm not trying to promote KYB's, but they haven't given me any problems.
If you end up taking too much off their going to make a very annoying noise.
Good Luck
