The Dakota will reportedly be resurrected as a smaller, lighter pickup with coil suspension; recent reports suggest it will be “car based,” which would likely (we speculate) point to moving to the LX chassis (Charger, Challenger, 300C). Regardless, it will, as we reported in 2007, become more of a “lifestyle vehicle.”

Message: I read in one of the mags., C&D or M.T., that Dodge was dropping the Dakota completely after this year due to poor sales. Last year they only sold 50,000. As far as I'm concerned, my '05 is already "car based" platform with the strut type front suspension.

Message: Yeah, well be to be a bit more surreal, what about the future of the company that makes the Dakota??
I was hoping that the Gen5 Dakota would be a bit smoother around the edges, but of course what we got was a boxy look that had more in common with the Gen 1&2.
So therefore, we might need to look past the Dakota and hope that Jeep might roll and midsize truck out on the floor sometimes soon. I'm hoping it will have a real off-road suspension and also be available with Diesel option (3.0L Benz bluetech).

Message: What I'm calling "strut Like" is the spring and shock are one piece or so it appears, vs a truck suspension with large coil spring and seperate shock as in the Ram's. The front springs on my '05 are pretty wimpy and the ride is more like a floating cruiser than a truck.
I only have 36,000 on it and I was wondering what everyone was putting on to firm up the ride a little.
My Ram 2500 4x4 actually has a nice ride with one exception...when you hit a section of buckled expansion on a concrete roadway. Then it can be downright bone jarring if the bed is empty.

Message: That's not a strut suspension, you dork. It's a coil-over shock. The Dakota is the first Dodge truck to use a coil-over suspension configuration.

Message: Ease up dude. Not everyone knows about suspensions.
Not everyone know the difference between a strut and a coil-over shock.
Well, most people do. Just the dorks don't.

Message: Yo, functionally illiterate, I said "strut like".
Bottom line it sucks and is more like a car than a truck. If I wanted a Ford Crown Victoria (Land Yacht)I would have bought one. That's what my Dakota rides like.
Now back to my question...What is everyone replacing these stock girly shocks with?

Message: Always wanted a Crown Vic, Might buy one as soon as I sell some of my assets.
One thing you might do is put some extra weight in the back, or replace you're coil over shock absorber with something else. But from what I hear, the gen4's are pretty strong trucks when it comes to work duty.

Message: Bring back the '03 style. Put the 5.9L and AWD transfer case in it as Standard Equip. Also make the LT265/70R16 tires standard. Make the engine put out a minimum 300 hp. I would buy it.
