Why is it that the thermostat you install is like 195 degrees, and
inside the truck on the gauge it goes to 260? Are there two
different thermostats or something? Because whatever is
controlling the gauge in my truck is messing up (or I'm
undereducated).
After a 5 hour drive through the desert recently, I turned my
truck off to get gas. I turned the truck off at just below 210.
Then when I got back in a few minutes later and turned the
truck to the on position, the gauge was reading above 210 at
about 240. Once I turned the engine on, the gauge began going
back down to just below the 210 mark again. Is this normal? I
just don't want my truck to overheat and have me not know it.

-Thanks

yes, that is normal. once you turn the truck off, you turn the cooling system off and the remaining heat from the engine has no where to go so it builds up in the engine for a while after shutdown. a condition known as "heat soak".

Also, the 195 degree thermostat it the temp where the thermostat opens, not a max temp.
