Message: What would cause a metal grinding noise from your 1997 Dodge Dakota when driving slow or reverse slow and when going down the road it stops?

Message: I don't have a '97, but I don't think that really matters. If we're talking about your truck, Ben, more info could help. Type of transmission, etc.

Message: Yeah sorry that was vague. It seems to come from the transmission, 44re, and it only happens when its cold outside, or when I first start it after a while. Disappears after it warms up.
I'm worried its the Torque converter or bands in the tranny, I bought a stethescope, but I thought someone here might know what it is because I see the question around on the net alot when I google the problem but it always seems to go unanswered.
