Subject: Door Lock Problem IP: Logged
Message: Message:
I have an 02 Sport. Yesterday my door locks stopped working properly. I can not lock them with the button on either door, or my remote. And they do not lock automatically any more when I drive over 10-15 mpm. There is no sound or anything when I try to lock them.
I can still unlock them using either door button and my remote but I have to lock them manually.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Message: First check the door lock relay at the power distribution center under the hood. If you can switch out the unlock relay for the lock relay and the lock function works again, then you can just replace the relay. The door lock circuit has a fuse but there are no separate fuses for lock and unlock, but there are separate relays. There was a post on here not long ago with the same problem and it turned out the relay was bad.

E-mail sent with schematics in pdf attachment.

Probably get to it this week.

Message: I went looking for the relays after work today. First stop was in the fuse / relay box located just behind the battery. The diagram on the underside of the cover did not indicate any relays (or fuses) for door locks.
So I went back under the dash after checking the fuses again in the panel on the side of the dash. Operating the switch and listening to the "click" when the doors would unlock led me to the square module under the drivers side kick plate but there were no relays there either. The click comes right from that box. Of course there is no sound at all when I try to lock the doors.
Am I missing something on their location? I think I am losing my mind!

Message: Maybe only on earlier Dakotas there were relays in the PDC. The square module in the driver's kick panel is the central timer module. I am sorry for giving you the wrong info here. I thought the 2002 had separate relays for the door lock system. Anyway, according to my Haynes book and what Stev posted before, the relays are internal in the ctm. That's why you hear clicking from it when you unlock the doors. The dealer has to scan the ctm with the drb tool to tell for certain if the ctm is defective.
If you do need a new ctm, I have heard you can use one from a junk yard as long as the donor truck has the same options as your own truck. You may still need to see the dealer because the factory keyless entry remote might need to be programmed to the replacement ctm. Or it might require a new blank remote to be programmed, I am not sure which it will be. Or you can just get a new CTM from the dealer and have it programmed there too.
The CTM and remote control are not inexpensive components. If the lock function is all that is wrong and you can get by without the truck for a few days it might be worthwhile to take the ctm to an electronics repair shop, maybe a shop that repairs OEM audio components and see if there is a simple problem like a bad solder joint on the circuit board for the lock relay. Or maybe the relay itself can be replaced if it is defective. The schematics Stev sent you may help a technician repair your CTM. I don't know if the truck will run without the CTM. Here is a link to more info on the CTM:
http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/gen/17832.html
Maybe this info will help. Let us know how it turns out.

That box behind the driver's side kick panel is the CTM. The relays are internal to the CTM, and not serviceable.

Message: Yep. Sounds like CTM faulty. You can have it verified by taking it to Dodge. No cheap diagnostics done there, though.

Message: Marv Thank You very much for the Dodgeforum links. I downloaded a pdf version of the service manual for my 01 Dakota from there. I appreciate it very much, who knows how much that manual would have cost from a dealer and how much money and trouble it will save me on any future work my truck might need.
Thanks again.

Message: Sorry Christen, the guy who had it on there his name is Kowalski had this post on the site:
http://www.dodgeforum.com/m_538840/tm.htm.
He had to take the manual off the post and his Website because he got an email from a guy who said he was an investigator with Chrysler and the manual was copyrighted. You can read about that at the end of the post. However, I will email it to you shoot me an email at JamesN710@aol.com. I saved a copy on CD...

Message: Does anyone still have those schematics for the CTM? Stev
sent them by email to the guy who posted this question.
Turns out my CTM is bad as well. Dodge wants $350 for a
new one (F@#k that). I'm all for junk yards but who's to say
that one isnt bad or won't go bad if you get one from there.
Probably gonna go the electronic repair shop route. I could
really use the schematics for this option. Any help would be
awesome, Thx!

Message: I'm having a similar issue but my key fob works to unlock and lock the doors. I replaced the master window control and that didn't fix my issue. I have a 2002 dodge Dakota. I have 2 ctm fuses under the hood. Both fuses are 20amps and the fuses tested good with a fuse tester. Does anybody know what wires control the door lock from the switch? I don't have a ctm on the driver side kick plate fuse panel. There is not a relay for the ctm on my truck either.

Message: My 2001 Dakota is so bad the locks engage and disengage as the mood fits them. They click constantly. No need to be in the truck. It does what it wants anytime it wants. Drivers side got so bad I made it manual only. Cut wires pulled electrical out. Passenger side. Does it sometimes for 1 min or ten hours. Even when Running. And no one can figure why. Lets try #### and #### says dealer, sure? no guarantees no electronic returns How big is your bank account? Chrysler junk.
Took 13 yrs to find a/c leak soaking rugs. Same truck. Chrysler could not. Leak found when changing fan speed resistor module it was installed wrong from the factory. screw missed hole on module. Rust on screw and look at gasket proved it was the problem. Buy trouble by Chrysler. New worse.

Message: Before you spend the money and take it into a
dealer. Pull the kick plate cover off on the drivers
side. Make sure the molex connectors are fully
seated and plugged in the white ctm. Like anything
they come loose as mine did. It's easy and free to
check before replacing a working part.
