Message: This guy is getting 60 mpg in a hummer, buy intalling turbine engines in these trucks. Didn't chrysler attempt a turbine powered car in the mid 60's, but scrape it because of cost?

Message: Very cool car, in deed. Too bad government regs stifled this innovation. Hopefully, the current work can be taken further.
It's interesting to read about the Chrysler turbine's emissions. It completely burned the fuel so there was no HC and CO emissions to contend with. But as a byproduct of complete combustion, NOx levels were too high. I say so what? Who doesn't need to laugh their way through life?

Message: You need to read the article - its a hybrid. He "thinks it will get 60 mpg." Per the article, "He aims to use the turbine to turn the Hummer into a tricked-out electric hybrid." "Whenever the truck's juice runs low, the turbine will roar into action for a few seconds, powering a generator with such gusto that it'll recharge a set of "supercapacitor" batteries in seconds."
I'll bet he swears by the cowmagnets too!
Chrysler's turbine car also sucked too much fuel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Turbine_Car
Turbines are favored in aircraft due to power to weight ratio or just power output - not because they are fuel efficient.

Message: I meant nitrous oxide, should have labeled it NOX. Yeah the other compound is not friendly.
As for the bad fuel economy, you have to remember the era when the car was tested. In the 1960s a gallon of gasoline (regular, 96 octane) could be bought for less than a quarter. Low fuel consumption wasn't a big criterion for automotive design. Fast-forward 40 years, much different.
On a side note, I'd love to pay $6 to fill up my QC. But then again, I wouldn't be earning the medium bucks, either.

Message: Stick shift is right he claims it gets 60 mpg and it is basically a hybrid, but I was more interested in the fact that you had a choice of fuels to run it on. which means you can probably find a fuel that isnt ove $3 a gallon lol. They say you can run almost anything through these engines. Not to mention its different I get tired of seeing the same old thing on the road all the time.
Here is a better write up on it.

Message: NOX isn't nitrous oxide though, that's N2O but the 2 should be dropped down as it represents 2 Nitrogen molecules with one Oxygen. NOX represents nitric oxides...
