Subject: Dakota AWD tranfer-case fault? IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone out there got extended real-world rural-setting ownership of AWD Dakotas? This is reference to bustin the transfer case due to incorrect tire size: 1/4" difference due to putting new tire on after blowout. On highway roads (in last month) have had CV/driveline break/catch fire (dealer repaired) and 3 weeks later got a 14"+ crack in back of housing. This is '01 pick-up with 112,000 mi and no previous related issues. Having major issue w local dealership (they deny any connection), so anyone out there that could help w be appreciated.

Message: I assume your truck is like all the other AWD rigs out there. It is designed to go around corners even on pavement without binding. This tells me that 1/4 inch would not effect anything. your spider gears should compensate for this. I don't think you can win this one. millage is also against you. If it's cracked but not seperated maybe you can dump the gears out and weld it up. I would only consider this if money was a hugh problem

Message: Not a chance. I put 110k on mine. Towing, hauling, hard farm work. I broke mine pulling a horse trailer three months ago. I had it replaced with a Jasper unit with a 75,000 mile warranty (transferable).
