Subject: weird dash light/parking light prob. IP: Logged
Message: I have a weird problem with my 99 Dakota sport. Recently I went to dim my dash lights and I blew the fuse for the parking lights/backlight for the dash. If I turn the interior light on with the dimmer wheel the fuse wont blow, but as soon as I roll the wheel down off of the interior light the fuse blows. In other words as long as i have the interior light on everything is fine, soon as i turn it off the fuse blows and no more dash lights/parking lights. I have replaced the headlight switch and still have the same problem. Anybody have any ideas what might be going on here or at least maybe where to look?
Thanks for your responses

Message: I tried to post a reply earlier this week but it didnt come up for some reason. I have discovered that the problem dissapears when the radio is dissconected. I'm going to check the wiring harness tomorrow to see if there are any issues there. What do ya think? p.s., its an aftermarket stereo and i dont have the orange dimmer wire connected to the radio, but I dont think it is getting power or grounding out anywhere.
thanks for your replies

Message: Sounds like its related to the aftermarket radio installation then.

Message: Problem fixed, somewhere under the dash i guess there was a short with groundwire/dimmer wire. Ran a new ground wire to the radio and problem was fixed.
