Message: My 98 Club cab 4x4 doesn't stop as well as it should. Petal seems spongy. I can press it all the way down to the floor but the brakes won't lock or stop the truck as well as it should. I pump the petal but no improvement. Petal still goes all the way down. When the engine is off I can stand on the petal and it only goes down about half way. Bad master cylinder or booster maybe?

Message: How dark is the brake fluid? Compare it to new fluid. You might have got some moisture in the system. You need to have the pads checked and the system flushed out with new fluid.

Message: That's a definate sign of air in the system. Start at right rear and bleed the entire system until you get fresh clear fluid and no bubbles.
When cold, water will act like brake fluid in the system.
Your truck uses DoT 3 or 4 (probably 3) from the factory. It's hydrophyllic. So as long as you don't have a LOT of water in there, you won't see any.
