99, 318, KnN, Rancho 3" Sus-lift, 31x10.5r15 87 octane. 120 mile commute most of it interstate. I am pretty proud of the milage especially with crazy gas prices.

Message: I averaged 21 mpg on my last road trip...but that's with a V6...lol. Due to gas prices, my plans to trade my truck for V8 4x4 Dak have pretty much been crumbled.
Sadly, I'm looking into economy cars now...or maybe a sporty 4-banger...while I normally can't stand rice...30+ mpg is really helping me to acquire that taste.

Message: I hear that, but actually the logic is against it a bit now. The economy cars are going for a premium, some dealers won't even haggle on their price right now. Gas guzzlers on the other hand are deeply discounted way below invoice. My dad purchased a new Nissan Fontier King NISMO, fully loaded I think it was 31k MSRP, he paid 16.5 with a trade in of his 2000 dak with 120k miles on it. I think that would be around 21 or 22 dealer price. An extra 9 or 10k in your pocket buys covers alot of the additional gas run up. Also alot of the high toned rice burns get sucky milage anyhow. Just a thought.

Message: Wow 20 miles, I wonder if I could get mine up to that. I realize the 4.7 is more efficient but do you think if I reset the computer back to factory and drove with a lighter foot I could get more milage out of it?

Message: I usually register 18.3 MPG in my QC doing mostly freeway driving - 80% or more. I'm happy. Driven right my Durango can get 16.2 MPG with the same driving mix. If my wife drives it much it can dip into the high 15 MPG mark.
DakotaOwner99 - I think based on your truck's setup, what you are getting is about as good as it gets. If it didn't have the 3" lift you'd get a bit better MPG number. Lighter tires would help too. But then it wouldn't be as fun to drive. That's the price we pay sometimes. :-)

...which sucks...cuz he was gonna be my hookup on a nice Dakota in the near future. Stupid government.

Message: My RC 4.7L auto gets a best of 23mpg/hwy if I'm doing 65. I got about 21.5 on a trip to cali, but that was with all 4 O2 sensors malfunctioning. Now its up to 23 though.
This is a little off topic but I raced my wife's new 2006 Jetta GLI and actually won. We only went to 50 mph but I was ahead of her by one car length. I'm sure if we would have kept going she would have caught and passed me though.

Message: My '01 RC 4.7 NV3500 3:92 gets 20.3 mpg combined city/highway. Air intake, exhaust mods and HO cams help. 168K miles now. The future looks bleak for NEW Dakota owners wanting 20 mpg from the 4.7. 4250 pounds curb weight for a new Dak CC, and I hear no 4.7's sold with 6-speed manual tranny.

I have an 03 QC and I am averaging 14.62 mpg. I do have 4 off-road lights on top and a functional custom ram air hood scoop. A lot of you are 4mpg or higher then mine. What is up w/ my truck? I am not an aggressive driver so what do you think the problem is?

Message: Brandon,
2wd or 4wd...what size tires...gears...city or highway mileage...? There are TONS of things that can influence your gas mileage. Heck...even driving against the wind on a windy day can KILL your mileage.
FYI...my 2wd RC 3.9L with 3.55 gearing and SLIGHTLY larger than stock tires, 180*F thermo, and a few other mods averages around 16mpg in town if I drive sensibly. My trip where I averaged 21mpg was the first time I EVER managed to get over 200 miles on a tank before having to stop for gas.

Message: 99 rc with cam, intake, exhaust, bored .030, cold air, 2wd, and r/t wheels i get 10. the first 500 miles on my new motor were all babied. and even with that i got about 11-12 on alot of highway and country roads 65-70. with my around town driving and some good rippin i get about 9-10. im surprised how much it dosent change cause i get on it quit a bit.
with all those mods wouldnt you think that i would get better milage? its just makin it breath easier. if i had injectors or supercharger i would understand but a cam? intake? that makes the motor breath causing it to use less gas right? thats why the v6s get so bad of milage cause they have all that weight to carry w/ less power.
dose that make sense^^ to anyone eles?

Message: A v6 does not get much better then the 4.7 in the first place I have a 03 Quad Cab 4.7 4X4 and get 16 in city and 19 to 20 on the freeway. The extra weight of the Quad cab is really working that 6 Banger that is probably causing the bad Mileage.
My buddy has a regular cab V6 Dakota and gets 17 in the city and 23 0n freeway.
