Subject: Rocker installation gone wrong - HELP IP: Logged
Message: Ok... so I was installing my rocker arms when the bit fell out of
the wrench. It was supposed to be held in magneticly, but guess
that didn't help. It fell into the head and I could see it at the
base near a pushrod passage. I tried getting it with a magnet
and screwdriver but no luck. Then I tried reaching in with a
vacuum to suck it out and when I pulled the tube out of the head
I couldn't find the bit. I checked the whole vacuum and its not in
there so it must still be in the head. Where could it have gone?
Is there an oil passage it might have fallen down? I'm out of
ideas and I really don't want to have to remove the head. Any
help you guys could offer would be appreciated. Thanks
everyone.

Message: Could be under the intake manifold in the lifter valley .... could have dropped into the pan .... or worst case .... sitting on top of the camshaft..... pull the intake manifold and look for it ....

Message: You didn't plug the oil returns, huh? I did the same thing, only I dropped a spacer down in it. I called a mechanic friend who has a good strong magnetic retriever for such things, and it "snicked" right out. It was a pretty stout magnet to be so small.

Message: Thanks guys I'll give those ideas a try before I start pulling things
apart. Any idea where I can get one of those magnetic retrievers?
