a long time ago "i was actually 12" i had a honda 300ex and the actual size was 282cc. so thats my email along with alot of other names.

its a 99 dakota 318. i just rebuilt it. bored .030 over cammed, MP1 intake. full exhaust, mopar pcm, im almost possitive a lower rear gear, and ported heads.

besides takin the whole motor back down "i just got it in friday" to stroke it ive pretty much covered all the basic upgrades. sooo NOS and some boost are next.

i only have till tomarrow for the nitrous kit. should i get it? id only run a 100 shot and thats after about 2k miles are put on the fresh motor.

Yes the wet kit is a nozzle that sprays fuel and nitrous into the intake manifold so larger injectors and pcm tuning are not needed. You also my want to go to a colder spark plug using that much nitous. Your motor should be able to take 100 shot with no problem as long as its tuned right. Just start with a 50 shot or so and do some spark plug pulls to make sure your mixture is right and there is no detonation. Then repeat at 75 and finally 100. Everybody seems scared of the stuff but almost all of the people that have blown their stuff up have screwed up somewhere. 400 is a bit steep but if its like new then yea id probobly buy it.

Is that a universal sniper kit?
Also get a pressure gauge. Some people say its optional but... IT IS NOT!!! I cant even conceive how to begin tuning a nitrous system without knowing your bottle pressure.

There is other neat stuff you can buy for it but most of it is just overkill for the street. Bottle heaters are cool but mine never gets turned on. purge lines are cool when you want to show off but in reality doesnt really do a whole lot because if you hit the engine with to much nitrous to fast you just spin the tires anyway. Fuel pressure cut off switches for safety. A nitrous RPM window is a very good safe guard.

i tihnk it comes with a guage. and it is just for street. so maybe a purge system but i deff. wont need a bottle heater.

An RPM window turns the nitrous on after 3000 or so RPMs and off where ever you want to set it. After 3000 RPMs fuel puddeling is a lot less likely and its alot easier on your internals. Most systems only come with a wot (wide open throttle) trigger switch. Basicly when your pedal hits the floor the nitrous comes on immediately. This is a cheap and stupid way of doing things. The best way to do it is use a window switch and a wot switch so both conditions have to be met before the juice comes on. The #1 Reason for blowing nitrous motors is activating below 3,000 RPMs. If you dont feel like getting a window switch you could just use a activation button. (GO BABY GO) Button. Not as safe as a window but it sure is a lot of fun having control. You just have to keep from getting too excited and hitting it before its time.

I have seen smaller v8 motors like my 4.7 take 200 shot blasts a few times. As long as its set up correctly and not going into detonation or puddeling you would be suprised what most motors can take. I once saw a 4 cyl neon shooting 150s. I think he blew it by the end of the day (Funny rocker noises) but I never saw a weed wacker engine move so fast.

yeah i dont like the WOT switch. im at WOT all the time lol. so i dont need the nos that much. im prolly ganna go with the GO BABY GO switch. and then i can control it and keep it above 3k. what the highest i can it hit hat.

see i know very little how nitrous works. how long dose it spray for? how many shots will a 10lbs bottle last with a 100 shop on it. i only want to do 100 cause its safe and i was told i wont have to mess with timing too much. i ust set the timing on my truckk and your not suppose to change the dist. for ignition timing. just injector. so how would i change my timing to run more?

ive also heard a stock mustang 5.0 can handle a 200. ive seen a civic run a 200. not really a street car.

Alot of stock 5.0s came with forged pistons so they can take alot of nitrous without frying. My friends 89 even had a terrible nitrous backfire and the motor survived.

Once you hit 3000 rpms you just hold the button until your done with your run. Hook the button up in series with your wot trigger so you have to have both conditions met for the nitrous to come on.
You should get around 15 1/4 mile runs in on a 10lb bottle. 20 if you have a heater to keep the pressure up. If your just using it for short bursts playing on the street then a bottle will last a long long time.

As for timing I would add a MSD ignition. With this you can set it to retard you timing with a control knob in the cab. You can also hook up rpm window switch with one. Your timing should be ok stock but sometimes its just better to take out 2 degrees just to be extra safe.

i cant take out 2 degrees with the stock one anyway huh? dose the MSD box take the signal from the comput that goes to the coil and change it? if not, how dose it work?

thanks for all the help.

yes that is how the MSD box works. Nitrous backfire is when you get a good load of nitrous and fuel in your intake and it backfires. It will destroy plastic intakes, some weak castings and possibly destroy your motor. Here is a good example.

http://video.ls1tech.com/Player.aspx?fileid=D5953D3C-0E4E-4017-B8E0-4154BBCD3BEF&kw=50&p=0

An RPM window is the space where you would want the nitrous on, usualy between 3000 and 6000 RPMs. It would turn on at 3000 and off at 6000.

Just take your time with it, do your research and start with small amounts of nitrous. Its always the new guys that dont know what they are doing that blow their engines.
You probably know more than most people that I have met around here with nitrous just from reading this thread.

Just a reminder, make sure you use two steps colder plugs as the ground strap can get glowing red hot and cause preignition.

your right about my knowledge of nitrous. this thread alone is pretty much all i know and its more that anyone i know "that includes alot of gear heads"

deff dont want to blow the engine. i just got the new one in and running on friday. i have about 600 miles so far. i wouldnt plan on runnin the nitrous until after 2k. and at first i will run a 50 shot with stock plugs and see what happens. if the plugs come out white that means its running lean right? how do i fix that? and what plugs are two steps colder? also which ground strap are you talkin about?

The ground strap is it the little wire that the spark jumps to on the spark plug. To find a colder plug is a little confusing some times. For my 4.7 plugs the stock plug is 3924 but I run 1 step colder 3923 or if i use more nitrous I would go to 3922. Now this is just for autolite, champion and a few other manufacturers. Some companys like NGK goes higher for colder plugs. I would check the manufacturers web site or call them. Here is a good site to learn to read plugs.

http://www.dragstuff.com/techarticles/how-to-read-plugs.html

Or you could always get an o2 sensor kit or even a wide band since they are fool proof and prices have been dropping on them. Thats what I use on my firebird and it makes tuning it childs play.

Almost forgot. Do not use any special plugs with nitrous. No platinum, iridium, split ground strap or any other exotic plugs. Trust me, they are not nitrous friendly.

Just a kit you install that lets you know approximately where you are A/F wise. They read great when you are going for 14.7 to 1 but you are going to be going more for 12.5 to 1 and they are not very accurate down there. Here is how to do it on a thirdgen fbody but the concept should be the same.

http://www.thirdgen.org/o2tuning

Wideband o2 sensor kits are expensive but they are very accurate and they look cool on your dash LOL.
