Subject: A/C Problems IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys, today I went to use my A/C, my charge is fine because i checked with my manifold gauges. Anyways the compressor will not cycle with the switch inside the cab. Fuses are okay. I did get it to cycle every time by jumping it off at the relay. Could this be a high or a low pressure switch gone bad? Thanks.

Message: What pressures are you getting with the compressor running while jumped out?

Message: On our 96 Mazda Protege, I paid for complete redo's of the gasses, etc., never fixed the problem about the comp. not cycling on correctly.
I was about to buy a new compressor.
Then my rather non mechanical friend, told me about a shop near his house. They simply took the shim out of the compressor clutch so it would engage easier.
$30 charge. The A/C has worked excellent for over 3 years, using about it about 9-10 months a year here near Houston Tx.
Very few shops will even attempt this. Why fix it for $30, when they can sell you a new compressor, the freons, charging, disposal, etc. for over $500?
Check into it, works every time for this kind of problem.

dodge owners manual says a/c may or may not come on based on what you pick.
I like my dak but it is 40 years behind the times, I wouldn't by another one
