Subject: Battery from 1999 IP: Logged
Message: Ok random stuff, but is it weird that my battery in my truck is still the original battery from 1999?
I bought the truck brand new and have never replaced the battery.

Message: just a heads up, but seems like batteries these days are an all or nothing type deal. will be working and checking out perfectly fine for years, then out-of-the-blue one day you go out to start your vehicle and the battery is complete history. it's happened to me twice now, once in my 2000 QC, and again in my wife's european snootmobile...

Message: One thing to keep in mind is the higher the starting power the more and the thinner the plates. Replacing your battery with the biggest one that fits and same as new cranking power or close as possible. That will give you the longest life and reduces the worst possible breakdown problem batteries have. Internal shorts or disconect between sells. These are the 2 items that make a battery die while your in a store or over night. Lose of water below the plates or sulfation. Sulfation Being caused by a low voltage charging system, corroded cables left unattended, or just letting the battery set in a discharged or partly discharged situation. Like say listening to your CD player while you wash and wax the car in the cool air of the evening and letting it sit that way over night or longer.

Message: I've had two batteries only last in my 01, 4.7, QC, HD group w/ trailer towing, etc. It's a big a$$ battery! NO electrical problems, but had both go out just over 2 years, the first was replaced by warranty. ON my third now.

Message: I've had batteries last 10 years just by a little overnight charging every cpl weeks when its cold. I will admit the Mopar had some crummy batteries for a while as I can prove by the thousands of warranty claims I've written, but the group 27 heavy duty diesel battery I put in my 99RT is in there 6 years and is as good as new. I use battery tenders on my other cars that sit and would recommend them to anyone who has a car that is only used weekends or once in a while they are excellent for keeping a car totally charged and if you get the outdoor one they are totally waterproof as i leave mine outside winter/summer. I do have fullsize battery chargers also and portable jumpstarters also incase of a dead battery

Message: I still have the original battery from my 99.
That's also with about 2000 watts rms in my sound system, but my
HO alt supports it pretty well.
It's starting to corrode a crap ton lately, I might need to replace it
soon.
