Subject: New ABS Sensor trips light over 60 IP: Logged
Message: 2000, 4.7L, 5-speed, 4x4, 120,000 miles, RW-ABS only (2-wheel).
I installed a new rear differential ABS/Speed sensor today. Previously my ABS and brake light had been illuminated for about 3 months, and the speedo stopped working under 15 mph over the last 2 weeks or so. After replacing the sensor, the lights stay off until I hit 60mph. Like clockwork, the lights come back on at 60. No engine codes or MIL illuminated.
One thing to note was that the new speed sensor kit came with a special "jumper" wire that was about 3 inches long and, from my vantage point, merely added length to the sensor's output cable, but the instructions specifically said the new cable HAD to be included. This was a MOPAR sensor and came straight from the dealer.
In short, the new sensor is producing better results (speedo works better, lights stay off at low speeds), but it did not fix my problem 100%.
Reset the PCM? Change the ABS dump unit(s) located next to the master cylinder? Try to ignore the lights? Have the dealer pull the ABS codes (incidentally, how much can I expect that to cost)? Wait a few more days?

Message: you can get the code by turnning the key on/off/on/off/on. the codes will display in the odometer as Pxxx and when it's finished it will read Pdone.

Message: Daddio, there are no trouble codes stored, at least not any that are showing up in the odometer. This was one of the first things I checked. I have heard that the ABS system can store its own trouble codes and be read with a tool that the dealer has. Just trying to avoid that if possible.
Mojoe, I have not reset the PCM--to be honest I keep forgetting to do that. I will try it, but I suspect it isn't the problem as the light turns off after a restart, and only comes on after the truck hits 60.
I was thinking and I remember that in this truck the ABS light would come if you hit something like 87.5 mph and stay on until a restart. Seems like I read this was some kind of warning feature DC programmed into the truck. I can't help but wonder if this is related.
Thanks for your thoughts guys. I really appreciate it.

Message: I need someone to clear this up. The parts counter guy at Dodge says that to clear ABS codes you actually have to do a PCM flash. He thinks my light comes on because there is a lingering ABS code that will not clear itself merely by resetting the PCM. (I did reset the PCM with no luck).
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Message: BS: You don't have to flash anything to clear the codes (parts junkies). I'm wondering if the ABS module lost the pinion factor due to the bad speed sensor (yes, that happens) - this would cause speedo accuracy changes and can cause the ABS light to turn on at certain speeds - also can cause the cruise control to not function above 60mph.

Message: Dah can't you READ? I HAVE reset the PCM--stated clearly in my post above. I wanted to know if there was such thing as a PCM "flash".
Why don't YOU do a search of my name and you'll see that I've been posting here for two years. I've fixed many problems on my truck myself, many of which involved resetting the PCM, so I'm not some clueless idiot.
You'd think a basic level of literacy would be required to even get oneself on the internet, much less post messages.

I think the dealer may have said "flash" but he probably meant that it is a hard code that stays in the system until the dealer clears the code from the system. SOme codes can not be cleared with the battery disconnect.
