Subject: REPAIR MOPAR TRUCKS @ DEALER, ANSWER IS? IP: Logged
Message: HI, IF ANYONE WORKS ON TRUCKS @ A MOPAR DEALER THIS IS A FLUID QUESTION. I HAVE 3 DAKOTAS. 94, 95, 2000 ALL OF THEM HAVE THE NP231 TRANSFER CASE. I CHANGE MY OIL AND I USE DEXTRON 3 IN MY TRANSFERCASE. CAN I PUT THIS ATF4 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE 2000 DAKOTA AND ALL OF THEM? I HAVE HEARD MIXED THINGS FROM PEOPLE. OR JUST THE 2000 DAKOTA, OR NONE OF THEM? TRYING TO GET THE RIGHT ANSWER.

Message: I've been running it in my 99 NP231 since it first came out. I also added 50 percent Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer to the t-case and diffs. I know the manual says you can use Dextron/Mercon III in the t-case only but if you put that stuff in the transmission itself it will screw it up big time. I just feel safer using ATF 4 or AMSOIL ATF.

Message: Simple answer.
Use the recommended fluids.
When in doubt, read the owner's manual or ask the Dodge parts/service dept - they can look it up for you. Refer to Service Bulletin 21-004-04.

Message: Steve Roark, this sites resident Amsoil guy, can answer for you.
Simple answer; if the fluid you're looking at meets or exceeds the factory recommended, it's ok to use. That is what all the alphabet soup on the label is about.
