Subject: HELP-Alarm going off & can't start truck IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97 cc, 3.9L, auto with aobut 100K. I went into
Autozone tonight to pick some gaskets, when I got out
of the truck I noticed my key fob wasn't working. Since
my ipod was in there, I locked the doors with the power
locks. When I went ot get back into the truck, the fob
again didn't work, so I bought some batteries, and put
them in. Nothing. Used the key to unlock the door, and
the horn is honking, and lights flashing. I've tried
resetting the computer by turning the ignition with the
battery disconnected and it doesn't help. Unfortunately
I don't have another fob. The truck will start up then die
immediately, with or without gas. Does my fob and
CTM just need to be reset to disarm properly? Is there
anything on the CTM I can check out, wire loose? Or
does the whole thing need to be replaced?
I noticed about a day ago, the locks made a funny
sound when using the key fob to unlock the door, when
the door was already unlocked.
Thanks in advance.

Message: And God said let the truck start..............
I left the battery off and the VTA (I think) fuse off the entire night. I went back to Autozone this morning, hooked up the battery (the door was closed), got in and started the truck. I then turned off the truck and put the VTA fuse back in, and the fob works now and everything. Any ideas on what happened?

Message: The fob transmits on a radio frequency - perhaps the frequency was jammed and your signal from the fob wasn't getting to the alarm control unit?

Message: Rustywrenches-That's what I thought the problem was too, but my understanding is the only way that those things can get reprogrammed is at the dealer. I wonder how often those things change frequencies.

Message: Mine has refused to work a few times and I suspected that the frequency was jammed with other traffic. I live on the CA coast and from time to time garage door openers get goofy around here because supposedly the Navy is doing stuff with RF signals. I have no idea if its true but I have read in the local newspaper about the Navy theory on the garage door openers. Seems possible.......
