MAKE SURE YOR INSPECTOR CHECKS BALL JOINTS!! yes i have my 2wd recall letter going to dealer tomorrow. until then i'll make sure i buckle up. if i get any crap my next truck is toyota or honda.sorry DC.
p.s. otherwise i love my truck no probs except for a bad crank position sensor fixed in 5 min.
if they fix the ball joints and put a hemi in the next gen i guess i'll buy another dakota.

Lighten up Francis. I know your just venting mostly but no truck is perfect.Even the mighty Toyota got a recall for bad ball joints(never mind no warning, these things were wandering all over the place at highway speeds), and has brake rotor issues. My friend has an 04 Tundra with 4.7 and has a oil leak on passenger valve cover,no biggie, just another example of poor quality control. You have a solid motor, trans, improved brakes, and styling that blows away anything else, enjoy it.

Hope you get yours taken care of without any hassle and thanks for the heads up too BTW.

worn balljoints are your inspiration to buckle up??

wow...

there was not a 2wd recall. They extended the warranty to 100K miles for the upper balljoints on 2wd dakotas (not all years).

i just had them replaced on my 00 durango without any hassle.

All the talk about bad balljoint and problems caused by them ... and he waits for 50K and a safety inspector to check for and tell him they are bad ...... sounds a bit lazy to me ......

Over the 500,000 mile life of my 98 3.9 automatic, I've replaced four sets of the damn ball joints.
Pay a machine shop to replace the riveted-on ball joints with a good after market one. It'll fail too, but be a bit less expensive.
I think what we have here is a stinky design.
While you are at it, get a lifetime alignment plan from Firestone, for example, and save money there too.

You had an 03 dakota? Not sure how much in common the V8 dakota has the the V6... but it would make sense for DCX to make the Liberty and V6 Dakota very similar....... there was a massive recall on 02, 03, and early 04 Liberty vehicles for failing ball joint---- I'm talking they were wearing out with no warning under 20,000 miles!

Issue is supposedly resolved. I have a late release 04 Liberty and it has over 32,000 miles on it no problem. Back at the 30k service interval I had my local mechanic inspect the ball joints for wear anyway and he said they were in tip top shape.

Hopefully this will ease your worries that DCX is lazy with all their products.

I just got in the habit of having the front suspension inspected with each oil change. When changing it myself, I would check them out. My 01 RT just turned 100k, had the dealer swap out the uppers. They did not show any signs of wear but they changed them under warranty with out any questions.
