Message: In cold weather my truck acts really strange. It will start then immediatly shut right off. So i start it again and it runs really crappy and has little backfires and such but after about 1 min of driving it runs perfec. what could be causing this behavior? could it just be the truck is cold?

Message: Try hooking your vacuum cleaner to the tailpipe. The suction should keep the engine running.

Message: you may want to have your battery load tested. a weak battery can cause those symptoms.

Message: I agree with daddio - mine started right up and woild die unless I kept my foot on the pedal keeping the revs up. It seemed like the choke wasn't working. It didn't do it every single morning though. Then the battery died and I put a new one in. After the new battery it never happened again.

Message: Still might want to get it checked. My Firebird has killed a battery in under a year before. Also clean your battery contacts up.

Message: Weightset - might be worth checking like daddio says anyway; another possibility would be a dirty IAC on the TB.
4.7onN2O - still got that firechicken ? A broken ground strap between motor and body can overcharge the battery; took me a long time to figure that out on a Tempest once.

Message: Yup but the motor is out of it right now. I rolled a lobe on my brand new $250 small base custom ground cam. GRRRRR! I may have lost a cam bearing. Ill checkout that ground strap when im throwing it back in.
