Subject: Original computer for 3.9 IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know where I can locate an original computer with the original software for a 1996 3.9 2WD Dakota Sport? The stupid dealer claimed I had a spark knock problem, which I didn't! He replaced the computer and programed it with the latest software. My intown mileage went from 17-18MPG to 14.5, IF I'm lucky. Are there any other suggestions for this problem.
Also, I heard that K&N was going to come out with a Gen II air system for the '96 3.9. Anyone heard anything about this.

Message: Kim,
I just thought that i had to put a new comp.(but i
got lucky and didn't) in my 95 dakota too. I know
where a new one is but it probably will be going
back to the dealer soon. This one is for a 95
dakota sport but they should be the same.

Message: Something to take into consideration:
On the PCM's don't they have to program in the VIN and Mileage at the dealer (on the '97+ models). Is this the same for the older models as well? If so, you may get another "reflash" as well.
