Subject: HELP! stripped out seat bolt holes IP: Logged
Message: 2002 Dakota CC
So before I get started, I know this is my own damn fault but I still need help. I was uninstalling some amps from under my seats and therefore had the seats out. Well when I went to put them back in I wasn't paying enough attention and screwed one of the larger bolts from the back of the seats into one of the smaller holes in the front of the seats. So now I'm stuck with a hole that the smaller bolts won't fit into and that the larger bolts won't snug down into (screws all the way down, but won't snug down once bolt is all the way in). I need help. Has anyone else ever done this or know of a good way to fix it?

Message: I think that you could probably, get some new bolts if the threads are screwed up on the bolts. Then you can either use a tap with the same thread pattern and size to retape/rethread the holes. If this doesn't work, because the holes are now to big you could also heli coil the holes. If worst comes to worst I have had to do this for someone before. The person messed it up so bad I had to weld the hole up. Then drill a new hole and run a tap through the new hole to screw the heli-coil in. Yes that is alot of work, but it was strong and like factory. The heli-coil provides extra strength, but you dont have to do it. Them are some ideas to try if you want to put it back to the why is was. Otherwise if all else fails, I agree with OBIO3. You will need to get longer bolts, locker-washers and some thread matched nuts and bolt the seat down that way. Well them are just some ideas, I guess it depends on how hard you want to work and how much time you want to spend. Hope this helps.

Message: I just installed an amp under my drivers side front seat like you did. I could of sworn that the front smaller bolts went into a type of speed nut that looked like it might be possible to replace. When I was finger tightening it, it had some slop in it so I thought the nut was captured there somehow. Take a look again. Mines an '01 CC.

Message: thanks guys. I'll probably end up trying to get a nut behind it somehow. Why is it that simple quick mistakes always take a while and are a pain in the ass to fix?

Message: greg2, you're a god. I finally got around to getting a new bolt and nut and went to put it in and upon further inspection I noticed that there was a speed nut, but it had slipped down under the carpet out of site. I just pushed it back into place and reinstalled the original bolt with a little loctite and its good to go.
