Subject: Fan Clutch Info

Just wanted to advise everyone what I observed when I changed my Fan Clutch. Originally when I started having trouble with my truck wanting to heat up, it was in slow traffic. When I rev'd up the engine I could still hear the fan roar. Before I went to get the new fan clutch I heard some squeeking under the hood, so i opened the hood and shut off the engine. What I observed was the fan continuing to spin up to 10 seconds after I shut off the engine. After I changed the fan clutch it stopped immeadiately. This leads me to my point. If you are having trouble with your engine heating up, but still hear the fan roar, open up your hood before you shut off the truck, the first sign of the fan clutch failing is that the fan does not stop shortly after you shut off the engine. If the fan spins that freely it probably will not give the adequate amount of air necessary to cool the engine even at an idle.
