Subject: Power Outlet Fuse? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 Dakota. Both the cigarette lighter and power outlet wasn't working. I found the fuse for the cigarette lighter and it was blown, so I replaced it and it's working. But the power outlet still doesn't have any current. Is there a fuse for it?

Message: yes, in your fuse box inside the cab on the drivers side left of the dash, look at the chart and find power outlet and replace that fuse, if it still doesnt work look under the hood in that fusebox and if that doesnt work then your wiring is messed up, most likely it is a fuse so just keep checking

Message: There is no fuse marked power outlet. There is one marked Power Amp., but it's not blown, and besides, according to the owner's manual, the power outlet carries 20 amps and the fuse for the power amp. is 15 amps. I'll check under the hood for a fuse or relay.

Message: I am not positive which model year but I recall this question coming up before and it being a real PITA to figure out. It ends up on some models on the BACK SIDE of the fuse panel, where you have to feel it more than see it, there is a single fuse socket. Yup, the aux power jack fuse. Good luck.

Message: My 02 (I know 98 to 02 is big difference) doesn't
have a cig lighter plug just a power outlet. I
didn't like the idea of it only being hot while
the key was on so I hunted the fuse down. The fuse
for the *power outlet* is on the box inside the
cab and it's marked "Cig Lighter". It's a 15 amp.
Hope it helps on your 98...

Message: I had this same problem just a few months ago. I blew that 20amp power outlet fuse and didn't find the "fuse" for two days. I was getting ready to start tearing apart the dash too, but fortunately, I started tracing the wiring from the fuse/relay box under the hood.
There are some really odd and big things in that fuse/relay box under the hood on the drivers side. They have a clear plastic top and inside that clear plastic you can see what looks like a solder connection. Believe it or not, those are fuses too. The power outlet fuse is among them. I'd recommend you too buy some extras in all the capacities those are to be on the safe side. Mine didn't have any spares whatsoever.
They carry those fuses at auto parts stores, the dealer might have some but in 2000 they switched to using smaller versions of those so the dealer may not have any of the older larger ones left.
Good Luck!
