Subject: wheel bearings IP: Logged
Message: my 95 4x4 needs front right wheel bearings.the dealer said they have to replace the hub asembley to do it.they want $340 for just the right side.Does anyone know why the bearings cant be pressed in the old hub?Thanks

Message: I do not know if the 95 has this style or not. Most newer domestic trucks use an intergral hub/bearing assembly. It is not like the old days when you had timken bearings that were removable and service able. The new hubs have sealed bearing built right into them. You simply unbolt the old hub from the knucle and throw it away and bolt the new hub in place. It is cheaper and easier from a manufactures stand point and easier to replace. The down side is that they are expensive. They run $120.00-$180.00 dealer cost for most of them. Of course corvetes wold be alot more expensive. You might want to check with your local part stores and see what type of price they can make you on them. This is a realy easy job to do.
