Subject: clutch whine / squeak IP: Logged
Message: i have a 2000 cc 4.7l 5-speed that does a really neat thing sometimes when i let out the clutch...it emits this a horrendous screech/squeal that sounds like a cat getting thrown into hot oil underneath my truck. actually, it kind of sounds more like a power steering belt screeching, but i know it is related to the clutch.
it happens most when i have the rpms a little too high and i let out the clutch. i have become sensitive to it and can usually avoid the screech by keeping the rpm's at just the right level, but that level seems to be getting lower and lower to the point i am sputtering a little bit on some of my shifts because of low rpm's.
this started around 50k and has been doing it ever since ... it now has almost 100k. it used to only do it when shifting from 2nd to 3rd, but over time it has gradually started doing it in 2nd and even when letting it out into 1st when i really have the rpms high (like when i am towing).
you will all forgive me ... this is my first manual transmission. i have read lots of threads about clutches but haven't found an answer to my satisfaction...the truck doesn't portray any of the other signs of a slipping or failing clutch.
