Subject: "central timer module" IP: Logged
Message: Hi everybody,
To all you motor heads out there, please excuse my ignorance. I've searched the forums already, but haven't found exactly what i'm looking for. I have a Dak 2000 3.9 Ltr V6, Single Cab, Bare Bones. And I just got the Service Manual.
My questions:
1.) What exactly is the "Central Timer Module?"
2.) Why is it called a "Timer" module?
3.) Is there more than one Timer Module in a Dak?
Thanks for your help in advance.
-Andy

"And I just got the Service Manual."
Tucked away in that manual is CTM info.
Here's some more.
The features that the CTM supports or controls
include the following:
² Automatic Door Lock
² Battery Protection
² Central Locking
² Chimes
² Door Lock Inhibit
² Enhanced Accident Response
² Exterior Light Features
² Interior Light Features
² Intermittent Wipe Control
² Panic Mode
² Power Lock Control
² Programmable Features
² Remote Keyless Entry
² Remote Radio Switch Interface
² Speed Sensitive Intermittent Wipe Control
² Vehicle Theft Security System
I found this info by actually reading the manual.

Message: Read It,
Why do you have to be a smart ass? I've "actually" been reading the service manual too. And if you read my post, you'd see that you didn't really answer any of my questions. If you would answer my questions....I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Andy

Message: I've got a 1999 dakota-same engine. My CTM is in the dash behind the glove compartment and to the right. I replaced it but still don't have intermittant wipers or any warning buzzers or battery protection. Not sure but it may need programming from a dealer...

Message: From my 2004 FSM, and by now, you've probably found it in you FSM:
"The CTM utilizes circuitry, and information carried on the Programmable Communications Interface (PCI) data bus network, along with many hard wired inputs to monitor many sensor and switch inputs throughout the vehicle. In response to those inputs, the programming of the CTM allow it to supply the vehicle occupants with audible and visual information, and to control and integrate many electronic functions and features of the vehicle through both hard wired outputs and the transmission of electronic message outputs to other electronic modules in the vehicle over the PCI data bus."
What that means in regular words is that the CTM does most of the things you thought your switches and knobs were doing. It's also responsible for all the beeps and chimes you hear.
Exactly why it's called the CTM is anybody's guess, probably because of what it does and how it does them. You may be aware that some other vehicles (Pontiac, for example) have what's called a "Body Control Module", or BCM. Well, our CTM does the same kinda stuff.

Message: First time on this type of forum, but here goes.
2001 Dakota electronic door locks, lock and unlock by them selves while drive and while ignition turned off. It will stop after a few minutes once the engine is off. Was advised by a dealer it is related to the CTM. Took them 2.5 hours at 235.00 to figure it out, and now they want to charge me 800.00 to fix it. My question is, does it really take 2.5 hours to figure this out and does it really cost 800.00 to repair....I am so over these dealers jack you up for everything. Please advise.

Message: Just replace the BCM through dealer. $325.60 for the module, 1 1/2 labor to program. Dont let them jerk you around. Call the dealer, talk to the parts ppl, find out cost of module, check with service on labor for replacing and programming.
I was out the door $550.00, and they washed the truck also.
Modules are not avalible aftermarket, and have to be programmed by Dodge (bastards).

Message: I had a dimmer switch problem, one mechanic had me replace the dimmer switch that didn't work. then I researched that CTM, on line $250 dealer $400 Junk yard $25. replace CTM everything was good until I used my Remote keyless entry, this mixed up my CTM again. I read some where that this could happen and when you add a keyless entry to your vehicle you need to get the CTM reprogrammed. When I talked to the dealer about buying the CTM from them they told me they could reprogram it for $60. After buying one from the junk yard I went back to the dealer and they said they never heard of reprogramming the CTM. I'm Confused and I don't use my keyless entry and everything works fine?
