Subject: Belly Pan IP: Logged
Message: I have recently gotten a little loss in mpg, and more ping going on
on my 99 3.9. its got 86k on it. I have already changed all
injectors o2 sensors, as they all neede it. Now I am going to clean
my TB and IAC cuz they need it. Now when I do so, I am going to
check to see if I have some oil under manifold to see if the belly
pan gasket is toast. If it is, I dont wanna fix the gasket (unless its
really easy and someone can help/direct me to where to get how to
do it) how much would it be for a technicial to fix it? What would a
dealership cost to do so just for kicks? I'd probably go to my trusty
local area, but i'd give me a ballpark figure. Thanks

Message: I don't think the v6 has as big of a problem with belly gaskets that the v8s have. I could be wwrong though, as I have never owned a V8. If you want to be cheap, get a tube of The Right Stuff gasket maker. Pull the intake, clean it, apply to the pan, let it sit to get a little tacky, then reassemble the intake. Let it cure for a little bit, then reinstall in the truck. It is not a difficult process, just time consuming. You will also need new intake gaskets, bypass hose, maybe some new vacuum lines if yours are cracked or brittle. A good torque wrench is also needed, as intake manifolds are very specific on the torque for the bolts and the tightening sequence.
