Message: Hi there, I'm curious if anyone could answer a question for me. I have the opportunity to buy a 81 dodge van with a 3.7 in it and i would like to (if at all possible) swap that out for the 2.5 in my 98 kota. How much difficulty will i be facing and will it even be worth the labor and rebuilding of the 81? The price is definitely right on the van, and i don't mind a lot of work to it, but i don't know anything about the older motors and if it will even hold up.

Message: IMO, not worth the effort. Neither motor is all that great. But to stuff an older engine in a newer bay just doesn't make sense unless there's a substantial gain.
It will be tough to sell later, I probably wouldn't even take it for free.
And then there's the smog inspection issue....

Message: I didnt think so, but I figrued there was a chance and im bored so it would be a fun project. If nothing else we are gonna fix up the van and sell it, because we are getting it for 50 bucks. Any suggestions on where to find a relatively cheap v8 for my kota? i love the truck but the 2.5 is really draggin.

Message: An '81 3.7? Do you mean the 225 Slant Six? This is the Underdog of the auto industry. It's the lowest warranty claim engine Mopar has ever had, and can be built up to make respectable power. They last forever. If for nothing else, you'd have a unique Dakota with good power and great mileage. See cliffordperformance.net
