I have a 2005 Dakota V-6. Does anyone know how to disconnect the ever so annoying door chime? While on the job site I like to have the door open for air and the radio on while having lunch! If this door chime doesn't get disconnected soon, I'm going to "lose it"!!

I found all those stupid *chimes* ticking me off
to no end. I located the board behind the drivers
side kick panel on my 02 Dak. I removed the board
and cut the foil trace to the little chime
device. I re-installed it and no more noise.

Keep in mind tho, you'll still get all your dash
fault lights but you just won't hear it any more.

I don't have an answer for you, but really just a related question that goes along with this. Do the newer Dakotas have that chime that kicks in when you drive the vehicle without the seat belt clip plugged in? I noticed that my mother's 2004 Durango has that annoyance.

The only chime my 2000 Dak makes is when I leave the headlights on or keys in the ignition when I open the door, and that's actually a good thing.

Simple to do.
Get a tool of some kind - Phillips screwdriver works good, but any kind of dowel or rod no bigger in diameter than about 1/4" will do.
Find the latch mechanism on the door and using the screwdriver in the latch slot, close the latch. The chime will stop, because the "door closed" switch is in the door latch.
DON'T FORGET to lift the door handle and use the screwdriver again to open the latch before you try to shut the door, or it will make a nasty sound, and something just might break.

Not sure how to disable the key-in-ignition chime, but the '05 does come with the seatbelt reminder chime. It can be disabled by starting the engine with the seatbelt locked. Next, wait for the seatbelt light to go out. Now, within 10 seconds, unbuckle and buckle the seatbelt at least three times ending with it buckled. The chime is now disabled and is confirmed by a single chime. If you have an '05 manual, it is on pages 39-40.

You can also disable the stupid horn beep when locking the doors, that was so annoying because the horn is so freaking loud in the '05.

Many other "chimes" and "extras" can be disabled.
- unlock both doors on first button push on fob.
- lights can be set to not flash when locking.
- you can turn off the auto door lock at 15mph.
