Subject: Thinking of buying 98 or 99 Dakota Ext. IP: Logged
Message: I really like the looks and concept of the Dakota. I don't need a full size and my recent Ranger was too small. I do not know anyone with one to ask about likes or dislikes. Hoping for good feedback.
Is the four cylindar something to stay away from? I would love to get 21+ on the road.
Is there anything in particular (besides the obvious things) to watch out for?
The Dakota seems to sit a little on the low side. Is there anything quick and easy to raise it a few inches.
Any comments are appreciated.

Message: In my opinion, even the V6 is marginal in terms of performance in a RC let alone a CC.
The 4 banger is a quality engine but no power. The way I view a Dakota with a 4 banger is a completely stripped down one used as a vehicle for mall security guards.
With a truck, you are always best getting as much power as you can afford. You will always find a use for it.
When I originally looked at the 97s and tried the 6, wasn't enough for my "emergency Get out of the Way!" test.
Also when it comes to economy, the 8s will do as well as the 6 and 4 because you don't have to push the engine so hard to get anywhere.
To sum up. With a RC the minimum I would go is V6 with 5sp. That's my opinion.
