Subject: Tires n wheels IP: Logged
Message: If I put larger tires/rims on my truck - I will lose a little power and torque to those wheels. If so.... If I put smaller tires/rims will I gain power and torque to those wheels? Would this be like changing the rear end gear ratio?

Message: I was hoping for intelligent information - I have P235/R15 and was considering a slightly smaller tire if I would gain some torgue.

Message: Yeah, there would be some gains by going with a smaller wheel/tire combination but I doubt it'd be very noticeable except on a dyno.

Message: Smak Dak
Here's some figures on losses and gains .
If you go up in tire diameter by 1" from 30" to 31" then you go from 295ft/lb to 285.5ft/lb . Conversely if you go down from 30" to 29" you go from 295ft/lb to 304.8ft/lb.
(These figures are based on my math and may not reflect real world changes.)
A 1 1/2" increase or decrease in diameter changes things from 295ft/lb to 280.7ft/lb or 309.7ft/lb respectively.
On the other hand , a gear swap from 3.55 to 3.92 will change torque from 295 to 325 effectively.

Message: THX Hammerdak -
I already have 4.10 gears and I just happen to have a supercharger and a few other goodies. I'm needing new tires and am wanting all the torgue I can get. I'm runnin Michlin P235/75R. These tires are tall enough to rub when I turn (stock size is P195/...) Do ya think I should go down a size?
