Subject: Flex-a-lite 180 X-treme electric fans IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking at purchasing a flex-a-lite 180 x-treme electric fan, but have read various comments about them on other non-dakota boards.
I was wondering if anyone here has installed one, and if so what your opinion is. How bad is the current draw (18amp) is on your system? There have also been some comments about the noise and dependabilty of them are. I'd hate to drop $260 and have it burn out in a year or two.
Thanks in advance
- RJ

Message: I put one on my 98 5.2 about 3 weeks ago, so I really can't tell yet. Only problem I've had is the 30 amp fuse blew one time. They said thats not uncommon but they're changing fuse holders. Hmm.The noise is not bad at all. I just hope it will be adequate here in AZ when it gets hot.

Message: I had a Black Magic for awhile and it was loud. Had to fab my own brackets. Their adjustable thermostat unit is pure junk. Went through three of them and many tech support calls and couldn't get it working. May apply to other models of theirs....

Message: Started to get a little warm here in AZ the last couple of days. Had to reinstall my stock fan today. In my opinion, don't waste your money if you live in a hot climate. And yes, my cooling system is in good shape.

Message: I'd like to replace my mechanical, belt driven fan with a flex-lite. Did on my kids S10. I e-mailed the flex-lite company and asked why they didn't have one for a 4.7L. They got totally confused and recommended an electric fan. I'll keep the stock one. Anyone see a light replacement for the belt driven fan?
