Message: what is the engine doing? if its an internal controller issue, your PCM may need to be replaced.

Message: Everything appears to be running fine, gas mileage is poor and I suspect its running in closed loop, but it does run without any problems. I think the system is simply not leaving closed loop... hope the PCM dosent need to be replaced.
this is on the 4.7 2002 Durango 2X4

Message: Try resetting everything, alashaman. I had some
errors pop up and engine ran just fine. I removed
neg off the battery and let it set while I ate
lunch. Hooked back up and never seen the errors
again. That was a few months ago.
I kinda figured it might have been just a CPU
glitch like your home computers get once in a
while.
In fact, resetting the CPU seems to have solved
a problem I had with the 03 since new. That was
the tranny shifting in and out of OD with the
smallest on hills.
Good luck...

Message: I did reset the PCM using the normal procedure (remove neg battery cable, turn key to on position and let sit for 30sec. Reconnect battery, start car. This clears the code initially, then when i turn the car off and start it again the code comes back.
Tongiht I am going to try removing the PCM completly from the car / pulling the fuse etc.. to get it to really cold boot. Im not sure if there is any residual power keeping the memory of the PCM even with a normal reset..
I have a feeling that I am going to need to replace it.. which is a shame being that im 36750 miles into my 36000 mile warranty.
If i do replace it, does anyone know if a simple Jet chip / Superchip would work, or do i need to go to the dealership for a factory one?

Message: My Dakota has the same error, it runs but hesitates on low RPM, I have reset the PCM several times but the error comes back, Autozone said it was an internal memory problem,I hate to tell you guys but I had nothing but problems with my Dakota, it is a 4.7L 4X4 and a standard trany, at 150,000 miles I am about to replace the Trany for the 4th time, yes that is correct, 1st one was replaced by the dealer at 30,000 as it started slipping out of gears, the second one was replaced by me at 120,000 as it developped a loud grinding noise, the one on it now is doing the same. Also all of them will jam and do not want to go in 1st. I hate to say this but Dodge really built a piece a junk that they sold me for 25,000 dollars.

Message: If it's an internal controller fault, the PCM needs to be replaced. Good news, the PCM is an emissions component, which means it's still covered under your warranty. I believe the emmissions warranty is 8/80k, can't remember for sure.
Go to the dealer, they'll replace it.
