Message: I did a calculation and at 80 MPH going from 3.55's in my 4X4 4.7 with the 5-45RFE would only raise me maybe 300 RPM's!!!
But 1st gear, second gear, etc would be quicker and CLOSER together.
I can't wait to do my 4.10 swap myself.
Just got to get ahead again this summer so I can do that. Got tons of other bills and "things" my wife expects me to do this summer. Hard to pull one over on her to get my Dak something that only I think it needs :P

Message: I own a '01 RC 4.7 5-spd 3:92LSD. I get about the same gas mileage City/Hwy, which is 18.5 to 19 mpg. The tire I use is a full 1" diameter smaller than stock, 255/55/17 on R/T 17x9's, but 2400 rpm at 70mph isn't bad at all, especially in hilly East Tennessee. I have a alloy 3" tube homebrew air intake to the stock airbox as well, but with a 6" Fernco inlet with the rubber flap removed. HO cams are worth every cent. The TB is a self port/polish "true" mod, and I use Bosch Platinum 4418's. The exhaust is a work is progress. The Dak had a Flowmaster 70 with 2 1/2" cat back duals for 3 years. Two weeks ago, the tiny 2" pipes after the pre-cats were replaced by 2 1/2"; the basically 1 3/4" dual into 2 1/2" factory y-pipe was trashed for a Magnaflow 2 1/2" dual into 3" Y-pipe; and the 2 1/2" "third cat" was replaced with a Magnaflow Carsound 3". The system is marginally louder, but the engine runs freer, and the mpg improved slightly, about .5 to 1 mpg.

Message: no i meant manifold.
someone on another site suggested it.
he's a local and seems to know a lot, but then again he doesnt have a 4.7, he has two 5.9's.
so, i guess i should reconsider the manifold.

Message: nic, my opinion is do the mods in this order: cams, gears (or gears, then cams...), SuperChips, intake manifold, CAI, muffler/exhaust.
Get your bang-for-the-buck early (first 3), then add the lower-yield stuff (last 3) later.
Note that if you do a true-dual exhaust, I would move it up the list. Stock exhaust isn't too bad, the air intake can be home brewed pretty easily, and the intake manifold will just move your power band up the rpm range and let it breath higher up.

Message: lurkin,
thanX for the advice, the only thing is i dont think i will be doing the cams. it was brought up that it could void the warranty if not done by a profesional shop or the stealership. and that will cost lots.
so, i do know i want gears. other than that now im not sure.

Message: well nic,
As Lurkin will tell you, they (stealership), don't know the're in there.
Lurkin and I did our HO cam installs back to back on the same day. Mine first, no problems. After a home brew beer or two, we did his.
Something wasn't right on his. We took valve covers off, re checked everything.
He took it to the dealer the next day, under warranty. Emarrasingly enough, we had knocked a rocker arm off, and didn't even see it when we looked for the problem. They did, and never questioned how it got knocked off, and fixed it under warranty. We got lucky, and luckily, everything else was right, valve timing, etc.

Message: nic, the warranty is definitely a concern. But there is also reality. If something goes wrong, first they'll need to know that the HOs are in there. Only way to eyeball that is with a part number check, or visually up against a non-HO set.
As Todd said, the dealership did fix our little screw-up, but it took them 3 days to figure it out, get the parts, and button it back up.
At the end of the day it is your call. I'll tell you though, the cams were my most noticable mod. Note that I have not done the gears though, too many $$$ for a 4x4.
You should also consider that if you do the gears, the dealer could still bitch if you come in with anything driveline related.

Message: Cams should be the least likely thing being discussed to void your warranty - after all, they're stock mopar parts. Like the other guys say, the dealer won't even recognise them as different if you don't tell them.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: I had my dealership install my cams and intake manifold for 300. Still have full factory warrenty because they are mopar parts.
