Subject: why do CD players cost so much? IP: Logged
Message: i have a 98'Dak, and to buy a new dodge stock CD head unit costs over $700. whats so special about it? i like the factory look, and i dont really want to put in a gaudy flashy aftermarket. the factory sounds alot better anyway i think. why does Chrystler jerk us all over on that? anyone have a Factory CD player out of a 98-01 that they wanna sell? later all.

Message: try ebay... there should be plenty of DC CD players on there. I have one I could part with, but it is for the infinity system and prob wouldn't work for ya.\

Message: You can't use a unit from "01"or newer. However
you can use one from anywhere from "85" to "00".
they all mounted the same with the same connections. I put the stereo from my "00" Dak
in my "93" Lebaron because I put a Blaupunkt in
my Dak

Message: Another question to make you think...... Why does a right side marker light, mirror or tailight cost more than left from most car makers? MONEY ! If you were to build a Dakota from scratch it would cost in excess of 50k

Message: I have my factory stereo from my 2K quad cab infinity system. It's the standard, din and a half CD player unit. Let me know if you want it. I want $750 for it. Ha ha, pretty not funny I'm sure :-). I dunno, what do they go for? I'll check ebay. I'd be happy to mail it as well. Lemme know.

Message: Well.. for less than half that, you can get an "aftermarket" radio installed...
Personally, for around $400, I would want the Alpine 7875, 60W x 4 plenty of power to run the doors and rear panels with no additional amp needed and really clean sounding. (I heard one in a Ford F-250 and it just blew me away on how powerful it is...)

Message: Factory CD players are crap. I don't know if mine is what you are looking for but I would sell it for $200.00. I doubt it's anything like yours because you say it sounds good. I got it with the Infinity speakers which are good just not the POS deck.

Message: I guess this explains why the used dak I just bought has the infinity speakers but an aftermarket head unit. Just for opinion's sake, I have the Panasonic DF88 and I'm so happy with it I can't describe it. It sounded so good and full when I it got it that I was digging around looking for the sub, which it doesn't have.

Message: If CHEAP is what you want, just go to a
discount house (Costco for me) and get a CD
player kit w/cassette adapter. I then found a
little flat trash container at a garage sale for
$.50 that I reduced to take up less room,
cut/glued in a shelf to make 2 sections - 1 to
slide in/out the CD player and the other for
glasses, etc. Either rivet or bolt the ass'y to the
face of that under-dash kick panel below the
power outs, and you have a setup that doesn't
interfere with the cupholder or passengers'
feet.
Outside of the CD player (which goes between
2 vehicles), the glue (GOOP) was the most
expensive part of the project.
