Subject: really high idle?? need help asap! IP: Logged
Message: i have an 87 with a 3.9 v6 4wd auto.
my question is, i just replaced my exhaust from the motor back. it is 2.5" pipe the whole way back from the Y pipe off the motor, with a catco hiflow cat and a flowmaster 40 series splitting off into 2 after the muffler (also 2.5" pipe). it idles really high now at im gonna say around 2200 rpm (i dont have a tach so i cant tell exactly), but its really high.
i was wondering if there was an easy to fix this? would just adjusting the carb do the trick?
oh, also i have hotter plugs (ill see what #, and they are gapped at .035"),heavier wires, an accel coil and a 14x3" K&N filter.
i had 2.5" pipe from the stock (gutted) cat back to the flowmaster with 2.25" tail pipes before. also i didnt have the new coil, plugs or wires and it idled fine.
any suggestions?
thanks

Message: i put a new obd2 cat and a 40 series on my 96 3.9 and it started idling higher than normal. then the check engine light came on. turning back the idle screw on the carb made it idle down and the light to go off, but 2 weeks later it came back on. ended up taking the whole entire throttle body apart and cleaning it up real good. hope this helps.

Message: i turned down the idle screw, its like brand new now. i just had the O2 sensor replaced, so i think that had something to do with it too.
i plan on rebuildin the carb eventually.
thanks
