Subject: Crate Motor in Gen 1 IP: Logged
Message: Hello all. I know all this has been asked and probally has been beat to death, but here it goes.
My supercharged '88 V6 is getting tired and needs a replacement. Thinking 300 crate but need some questions answered.
Cooling I don't think will be a major deal, but I'll be open for suggestions.
Oil pan on the crate. Anybody know what it comes with? Truck style? Car style (from the looks in the MP catalog this is what it looks like)? If it is a car style what works in this swap?
Any comments or info about anything else I might need to know?
Thanks for the help.

Message: You need the rear sump truck pan.
Most go for the electric fans since the bay is so tight on Gen1's. Personally, I don't like burn-outs, so I went with a flex fan. Used a different radiator that fit forward of the stocker location.

Message: Thanks Gen 1. Would any 5.9 magnum truck pan work? As long as it's a rear sump it will work? I have a few set up in mind and really want to try to run a regular fan, not crazy about the electrics.

Message: I dropped a 2001 360 Magnum (pulled from a t-boned Ram 1500) into my '89 Dakota and it fit. So, I'm thinkin' any truck sump for 360 Magnum will fit.
I used a 1" spacer and this (17") fan:

I think a short shaft viscous clutch used on V6 Jeeps in the 90's would allow a conventional fan to work as well, but it'd be tight! I may give up a few HP to other setups, but it works when I need it. The fan is very lightweight, but good to 10,000 rpm, so I guess I'm safe. ;-)
