Message: Hi,
I have a quick question. I just purchased a used 2001 Dodge Dakota 4X4. When I was checking the 4 wheel drive by switching 2h, to 4h, to 4L I noticed that when I switched the electronic switch to 4L the light stayed on 4h, and was blinking on 4L. Does this indicate something is wrong with the 4 wheel drive unit, or does this happen by design? Thanks for your assistance.

Message: George, you have to have the transmission in neutral for it to switch to 4L, and I think max speed is like 4MPH for the switch, but works sitting still. 4H is shift on the fly up to like 50MPH, but 4L you MUST be in neutral. Try that, I'm sure you'll be fine from there..

Message: Just go to your local Dodge dealer parts department and they will be able to order you a new owners manual. Mine didn't come with one when I bought it used, so I got a shop manual on CD instead. The owners manual doesn't really contain too many nitty gritty details, but the shop manual sure does.
Good luck!

Message: Thanks for your help Justi, you were right about the truck needing to be in neutral. Take care.
