Subject: Looking for a Dakota.. IP: Logged
Message: Greetings from Missouri!!
I'm in the market for a truck and after a great deal of looking I'm very interested in a Dakota. I've seen a couple of Dakota R/Ts that I've really liked. Some of these Dakota's have in excess of 80K miles and I was wondering if there are any items I should be looking at more closely than usual considering the miles?
Last but not least I've seen prices all over the place...some close to blue/black book and some higher and some lower. Are there any good (reliable) sources for what these trucks are really worth.
Thanks in Advance,
Don

Message: The major things to look at for that mileage include balljoints, whining of the rear axle (sometimes bearings, $500+to fix), make sure the transmission shifts smooth and without slipping, check the fluid too (burned smell, dark brown in color is bad). Hope this helps. I'm sure others will chime in with things to look at.

Message: with dak quality I would be worried about 80k too. Buy a toyota and you would know that with 80K the toyota would not even be broken in yet.

Message: Hey CJ you always stutter?
Daks have one of the lowest resale value (percentage)of all pickup brands. That should tell you something.
They also have the lowest percentage of repeat buyers of ALL trucks sold in the U.S. Guess who has the highest percentage of repeat sales??? ??? answer= #1 Toyota Tacoma 2nd= Ford Full size 3rd= Chevy Full size.

I miss my old Dakota and all the friends I’ve have made here on this board. That’s why I come here everyday. Even though I say I “hate” everything about Dakotas I still keep coming back here cause I have a deep rooted jealously for all of you that still drive Dakotas.
In reality I would love to unload this Toyota of mine and come back to the fold, but it’s a hard thing to admit. Yes, I got screwed on the Toyota I bought and I regret buying it, as you all have probably figured out. I guess you could say I have a bad case of “Dakota-Envy”, that’s why I’m going to keep coming here and bashing your Daks, at least till I get one for myself again.
Sorry but I had to get that off my chest.
PS.
I don’t go to the Toyota boards cause those guys are a-holes. I’ve found Toyota guys aren’t as friendly as most of you. Hope you guys understand.

Message: The 2001 Dakota that I have. I think is going to be like the CJ series Jeeps I have had. When you own one there is alwasy something to complain about. When you don't you always miss them. Cj's are great work horses with the 258 cubic inch , unbeatable. The Dakota's look great and overall provide comfort and sturdy performance. Gas mileage could be better in both examples.
