Message: Does anyone know where the drain hole for the evaporator case is on a 99 dakota?? Every time i run my A\C , enough water builds up in there that i can hear it splashing around big time. The only water i can see dripping from under the truck is from condensation from the accumulator tank and lines but nothing from the evaporator area. I looked underneith but couldn't find it. Is it behind a heat shield for the exuast??

Message: Hey Craig,
Does it smell like Grannies old basement??
My '01 QC is being looked at today for the same thing. I have never had a smell like this out of any A/C in any vehicle before.
Do you make a lot of short trips in your truck?
I was thinking that may be my problem.
Not getting the coil wet enough to drain but wet enough to form mold or mildew.
Tim.
the drain is on the firewall in the engine compartment on the passenger side down low. it only sticks out about 1/4 inch so it is hard to see. good luck.

Message: That describes it perfectly. Drive to work is 13 miles one way.
Let me know what the dealer tells you, I hope they have a solution.
I will check my drain this evening. There must at least be a way to keep it clean enough to avoid this awful smell.

this is a link to a Tech. sheet for Rams' , but it may apply to us. Appears dodge knows that this problem does occur, clear back in '97 even?

Message: I own a 97 Dak Extended, I have had this problem for a long time now. Dealership refuses to acknowledge that this is a problem, claiming it is caused by the few passengers that smoke in my car on rare occasion. The drain hole is probably poorly designed and most likely get clogged. My suggestion is to run a metal rod up your drain hole, and attempt to un-clog it. Your condenser needs to drain, and stagnant water can also cause airborne diseases to develop. My buildup has gotten so bad that once in a while a mysterious puddle of water has formed on my passenger side floor mat. Doesnt seem to be able to come from anywhere but the Hvac system, so I'm thinking this must be it.

Message: The smoking thing will not fly with me.
There has not been a single smoke lit up in my truck!
I had a '97 and drove it the same as I drive this one ('01).
No problems with the ventilation system in that one.
This will be fixed soon or I will be very unhappy.

Message: My 1999 SLT 5.2 had the same problem. The problem is the evaporator. Plan on forking out about $500.00 plus for the repair.
