I would like to know what you guys prefer for gasoline. Texaco? Chevron? Phillips? What do you guys use and why? What do you think is better?

Message: I use Chevron, and a few times a year I use a bottle of Techron.
Several years ago I had a Toyota that ended up with large amounts of carbon and sludge built up on its intake valves from 50K miles of using cheap gas. The garbage on the valves was so bad that the car would stall repeatedly under almost any circumstance. It cost me $300 to have the intake valves blasted with walnut shells to get rid of the build-up. I asked the mechanic how to keep this from happening again and he said use Chevron gas and add some Techron every few thousand miles. Since then I've used Chevron and Techron on every vehicle I've had and not had a problem at all.

Message: I use Amoco, Shell, and CItgo. All three seem to be the best in terms of drivability and gas mileage.
Brands I stay away from: Any cut rate discount junk gas from out of the way stations as well as BP,CLark, Chevron and Mobil.

Chevron, Exxon, and Conoco (in that order). ;)
Just make sure you try not to fuel up when they're refilling their tanks...a lot of the "gook" from the bottom of the tanks is stirred up into the new fuel.

Message: I used to be brand loyal to Sunoco. THey make the finest gasoline. They are a little to far from home for me to go their all the time. So I have been useing shell and have not had any problems. I am running regular 87 and 89 and have not had any problems. I can not see useing the higher rateings if you do not have to. My engine idles a little rough but it has done it since it was new and it should be expected with an idle of 500rpm.

Message: Don't buy Casey's gas! After they jacked up their price to upwards of $5 a gallon on 9/11 - I don't buy from there anymore. The state of Illinois and Iowa sued casey's for taking advantage of consumers and won. Casey's had to pay several thousand $ for that, and refund the money that some people were stupid enough to pay for gas that day.

Message: Is it true that the 2000 Dak sports are designed to run on the low octane fuel? The dealer told me that and I was a bit perplexed as to why that is. He told me that's just the way it was designed.
BTW I use Mobile.

Message: Marathon gas is by far the best I have put in my truck. It isn't a national brand name, stations in the midwest and Florida, but nothing west of the Mississippi River. They operate Marathon, speedway, and Super America stations. Good stuff!
I agree with what 4WD said, DO NOT fill up when the tanker truck is there filling the tanks underground. Putting the new fuel in stirs up the sediment in the tanks that has settled to the bottom. Give it a few hours before filling up there.

Just about every vehicle around these days is designed to run on low octane fuels. Older engines sometimes needed the higher octane fuels, and, quite possibly, the Viper may need a high octane, but most vehicles today are made to run off the good old cheap stuff.

bernd's right about the 'gook', go on down the road when the tanker is in the gas station, because who knows how often they change their 'big filters'. Better safe than sorry, IMO.
