Subject: 04 Club Cab bed alignment
IP: Logged

Message:
I have an 04 Dakota 2wd club cab with a 4.7 v-8.
A landscaper's accident allowed a tree branch to lightly dent the rear upper bed panel. When I took the truck to the dealership for body work the appraiser noticed that the bed was out of alignment with the cab ever so slightly on one side. I got the truck back all new again except for that dang alignment issue. The Dodge guys are telling me they built it that way to compensate for engine torque. What gives?
I would appreciate any feedback on this.
Thanks.

Matt; Unless this is the boards best troll this month, and it's still early, care to name the Dodge dealer that told you that line of utter bull?
The bed can be re-algined there are 4 to 6 bolts to take out, re-align, replace bolts and torque to spec.
My '01 CC SLT was off by 1/2 inch on the passenger side took the dealer 45 minutes to:
1. read about the fix
2. locate the bolts
3. Take the bolts out
4. Re-align the box
5. Torque the bolts to spec
6. Wash/vac the truck
7. Have me sign off on the warranty work.

Find another dealer that's interested in having you as a customer instead of trying to baffle you with B.S.

Thanks for the advice everyone!
I'm printing the responses and handing them to the body shop supervisor (at Arrigo Dodge in West Palm Beach, Florida). Strangely, they had told me that the mounting holes in the bed are a fixed size and are not slotted (which would have allowed for adjustment)? Hmmm?
They have scheduled an appointment to put my truck on a frame machine to check the specs!
I'm gonna enjoy this!
Thanks again.
