Message: Depends on cab style, tranny, axle ratio, options. My 92 Dak with club cab, V-6, 4-speed auto, 4WD is rated for 16 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and that's just what it does in real life (well, maybe 17 mpg city).

Message: My '95 CC 4x4 3.9 gets 15-18 city and 20-25 highway depending on driving conditions and how hard I drive it. It's all original or OEM parts and I have a tonneau cover.
Last fill up I got 19.4 combined city/highway in atlanta traffic.

Message: With my 01 4.7 v8 I got an average of 16mpg city and highway.
I would see and average of about 18mpg highway only. City driving is what kills it, I got about 12mpg average in the city.
The best I ever got highway only was 20mpg, and the best city I ever got was 14mpg.

Message: I have a 04 QC AWD 4.7 that weighs in ~ 4900
pounds.
Driving around a small city I average 15 mpg, on
long highway trips at 80 - 90 mph I am getting 17
mpg with 400 pounds of people on board.
The best average I have had was a 60 mile drive
with an average speed around 60 where I got 18.5
mpg.
The worst average was 13 mpg at 90 to 95 mph on
the way home from the dealer.
The Dakota has about 1800 miles on the odometer
now and all mpg readings are from the computer
thing above the mirror.

Message: I had a '92 RC 5.2 3:55 2wd that got 17.5 mpg overall. My current '01 RC 4.7 5-spd 3:92 2wd gets 18.5 overall. The 3:92 gives up some highway mpg, with a high of 20, but I have gotten 19 in the city by shifting early and paying attention. Driven hard, the worst is 17. Unfortunately, the Dakotas under 4000 pounds are history; no Regular Cabs in 2005. If you live in hilly terrain, like we have here in East Tennessee, the difference between the V-6 and V-8 is only 1-2 mpg.
