Subject: dakota axle fluid capacity?....? IP: Logged
Message: im new to this but my dakota booklet says I need to change my rear axle fluid in the next 1000miles. Anyhow i'm going to purchase amsoil and was wondering whats the capacity of the rear axle? how much do I need to buy..in quarts pints or whatever. also..can I do it myself? like an oil change or ? thank you -Jake

Message: I thought the same, it doesn't list capacity or fluid viscosity in mine.
I have an 02' 4x4 (4x4 shouldn't make a difference) 9.25" rear end. Auto-Zone lists 2 1/3 quart of 80W-90.
I bought two quarts 75W-90 Mobil 1 and a bottle of friction additive required for my LSD. Had plenty of fluid to fill it up.
Also be sure to have some rags, degreaser and silicone to seal the diff back up.
