Subject: Anyone doing balljoints? IP: Logged
Message: After practice on the Dakotas I have learned a few short cuts. Uppers are a piece of cake. The lowers have always been the hardest. If anyone is attempting the lowers anytime soon you can email me. I have dropped the total time down to 2 hours per side with no air tools.

Message: What do you do with the rest of your life?
Go spend the $15 on a cheap air hammer from Home Depot and rent the spring compressor from AutoZone~Discount~Joes Auto etc.
Even if you wrench the wheels off by hand it shouldn't take you any more than an hour a side.

Message: Holy sh*t dude!
I can see explaining there may be a quicker way that may help or some general idvice form experience. But don't tear the guy up like that for an honest post!
That's the sh*t that will scare off the actual Dakota owners who come here and leave just the trolls.

Message: Good timing, guys. I will be doing this work any day now -- even bought the uppers already.
1998 2wd. Good basic mech skills, but "rusty" (me, not the truck). Know how to losen a taper with two hammers at once.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Message: Oh my God, reread the post jackass. I said no air tools. Not to mention a spring compressor isn't needed for a lower bj repair anyways. Think before you type...better yet, don't type at all. Obviously you don't turn wrenches

Message: Just for the record...the dealer charges 1.6hr for the upper and 2.1 for the lower. So seeing that 2hrs per side is beating the dealer time sounds pretty good to me.
Elliot - email me.

Message: Plus I have never had to "rent" a tool from Autozone, just leave a deposit which I got back when I brought the tool back. Was more like "borrowed" and if I was going to buy a tool, I sure wouldn't buy a "cheap" one that would either not work in the first place or break while halfway into the job and leave me stranded until I could find another.
I bet OMG lives for Big Lots and other clearance stores!
