Subject: Need New Seats IP: Logged
Message: I have an 02 cc with the 40/20/40 split bench seats and just last week I went to pull the drivers seat forward and it broke. It doesn't catch anymore, so it will fall all the way back or pull forward without having to use the lever. My question is where can I find new seats that will fit on the factory mounts. I am not looking to do a lot of work in replacing my seats and I don't want to break the bank eaither. Also I don't care if I can keep the center console, to be honest I kind of want to get rid of it anyway. Any advice or leads you guys could give me would be appreciated. Thanks.

Message: Yeah I bought the truck a year used and purchased a three year 75,000 mile extended waranty, but when I spoke with the dealer they said the seat is probably not going to be covered. I have only had the truck for a year and a half and it has 68,000 miles on it so I still have plenty of warranty left. I do have a question about that though, the guy told me on the phone that I have a $100 deductable on my warranty, what is that about, I have honestly never heard of such a thing, I mean what the hell am I paying an extra $1700 for? I'm 23 and this is the first vehicle I purchased on my own, and I am starting to realize car dealers suck...

Message: Thanks Radioman but I'm not the most mechanically inclined person there is, I'm not inept, but I don't know if I want to risk taking it out and trying to repair it and then really mess it up.

Message: It sounds like one of the return springs for the seat rack broke or popped loose. From what I remember, the return spring is a common pull type spring,,, 6-12 inches long. Heck, maybe the detent is not catching on the rack properly because something is binding it up, peice of trash under seat?
If you have the time pop the seat out, 8 bolts, I think 18mm back and 13mm front. The only problem with getting the 40/20/40 seat out is, the thing is as wobbly as a wet noodle once unbolted, you'll see what I mean when you unbolt it. Best to have assistance pulling the seat out of the truck once it's unbolted. What's the worst that can happen, you break something that's already broken.
If you don't want to mess with the seat call around to local junk yards and see if they have a replacement seat, they might also be able to install it for you for a couple of bucks.
On the dealer thing,,, try to fix this yourself as I doubt your 75K warranty covers it. Better check and see what the warranty covers. I recently went to the dealer because I heard a "popping" noise coming from the left suspension of my 1 week old 03 QC (balljoints?!?). Suspensoin was tight, but they found a beer bottle in the fender well causing the popping noise as the bottle rolled inside the fender. $70 to remove a beer bottle from the fender *#@&.

Message: JasonB,
My thoughts exactly, They got my $70 and that's all they are getting out of me! Anything else is going to be a warranty issue I have already diagnosed or I'll fix it myself. I didn't even try to figure out what was causing the noise because 1 - I had 6K left on the bumper-bumper warranty and 2 - the Daks have sh!t ball joints and it sounded just like my 00 when the ball joints went bad,,,
Oh well live and learn,,, and leave the stealership $70 lighter,,, damn this is starting to sound like a bad christmas carole :-)

Message: Ya know Kowalski, If it had been my beer I wouldn't have minded paying the $70 as I would have been the dumb azz who left it there. I realy don't know how it got there, guess the truck got thirsty in the 30K miles before I bought it. Previous owner, mechanic, factroy worker??? Your guess is as good as mine ;-)
I guess if the beer bottle is my only problem I should be grateful!

Message: I'm guessing factory worker. We once installed a few beer cans in the soffit of a house we were building in the hopes they might make a little noise blowing around in the wind; but that was for someone who richly deserved it. Sorry to hear it happened to you.

Message: Good luck on the new seat. I wanted to go to power on a 40/20/40 and could only find 1 or 2 nationwide. havent called on them yet but am fearful they may be a mistake.I think you need to get 4/2/4 unit and not just bucket seat.If you have any better luck I would appreciate any info you get.

Message: On my '02 QC 4x4 drivers leather seat was worn and tore by the switches where the seat compresses against the plastic support when you get in/out of the vehicle...took it into the dealer (33K miles) and they replaced lower seat cushion free of charge..and even with a great attitude. I took it in fully expecting to hear the normal wear and "tear" bit...So, with the extended warranty, Dodge should fix. Give Brandon Dodge a call at 813.620.4300 ext:405 and speak to Vicki. Maybe she can determine from her perspective what your dealer should do. She sure took care of me and made me a believer in Dodge service. BTW, I received my recall notice for ball joints so I'll be expecting another great service experience...sic.
